Unable to open links in Outlook 2007

I am running Outlook 2007 on Windows Vista Home Premium. I have been using it for at least a year with no problems. Suddenly I am unable to open any link from Outlook. I get an error message "The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". I have no problem in copying the link and opening it in my browser. Please help

You can check out the link provided on the below link. It has a fix that works for this issue. I had got the same issue when I was not able to open the same. So I found this link and it has fix on the same. When you apply that it will re-enable the links and this works quiet fine.

Microsoft Outlook 2007.
Been using this configuration for well over a year with no problem. Whenever I try to open a link contained in an email I get the error message as shown in my initial posing

Try to press control and then check again. When you press control you can see the clickable links are activated. You can simply click and it will take you to the web browser.

This fix applies to vista and windows 7, that are using outlook/office 2007 with Internet Exploder 8.

The Problem is-
"The operation has
been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please
contact your system administrator".

The registry fixes on the microsoft site, do not work for vista or windows 7, because the registry structure is different.

I agree with the user. If you don't have a fix yourself, then don't post a bunch of links chasing people off to other sites. 70% of the world can type into google- "how to make cherry pie" and understand that they get an answer. It's really fcking annoying finding that this site, has the highest google rating and then a bunch of links chasing me to the same place I started- Microsoft's website.
Bad user for not specifying your version of windows though- it would have cleared up the fact immediately that the fixes they tried chasing you to do not work for your operating system.

Here's the fix for this simple problem that is caused by installing another browser on vista and 7 and not choosing to make the browser your default. It breaks the cycle and broke the file association of ".html" and the default program used for it.

Close Outlook- if it's open.
START
CONTROL PANEL
DEFAULT PROGRAMS
SET PROGRAMS AND ACCESS DEFAULTS
Click on the little arrow sign on the right, next to CUSTOM
Where it says- "Choose a default web browser"
The bubble for "Use my default web browser" is already chosen -I know!
but still choose Internet Explorer then click apply and okay. This will reset the file association between outlook and IE8.

Hope this helps any other lost souls googling for repairs...! :P

I have Win7 Ultimate and Outlook 2007. I tried the fix below a few times and am still getting the same message as the OP?

If you are getting the same error while running the Outlook then it might be possible that you are not having the administrator tight to run the same program. I will advise you to login as System Administrator and give rights to run the same through GPO. So if you can then go through the same and click here to know more about issue.

THE ANSWER

To Reset Web settings in Windows XP:

1. Close Outlook
2. Open Internet Explorer.
3. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Reset button.
5. Under Internet programs, verify that the correct e-mail program is selected.
6. Click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box.
7. Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you receive a message when Internet Explorer starts telling you that IE is not currently your default browser, click Yes to make it your default.

Had the same problem before and resetting websettings change IE to default none worked .
I realised I have uninstalled google chrome. if you did .

Go start
run type regedit
hkey local machine/software/classes/htmlfile

check under default that the name is htmlfile and not chromehtml or firefoxhtml

if it is not htmlfile right click default, modify and change to htmlfile

exit reg

should work
