Which version of windows you are running?? If you are running windows Vista then i will like to inform you that it has been recently been updated with critical updates?

In that case you will have to use your installation disk for diagnosing this issue. Once you are done with the same you can clear all temporary files and restart your computer. In case if that doesn't make any sense in your case then you can perform system restore to get rid of that recent update. Just try out what i have suggested and let me know if you have any query further, best of luck.

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working

To fix the issue you will need to turn of Data Execution Prevention. It is causing issue. Navigate to Control Pane > System Maintenance > System > Advanced System Settings. In that you have to go in System Properties Window and from the top choose Performance. In that you can see Settings click on it and the click on Data Execution Prevention. You have to turn choose Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Later on click on Browse and then go to folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12. Click on the same and save changes. Then test back.

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working

Running a repair installation will also help you in fixing the issue. You can do that through Control Panel. Go in Uninstall Programs and in that click on Microsoft Office. Then choose Change from the top bar and run a repair setup. Then test back. There can be issue with some internal plugin or some macro which is causing the crash. By running a repair setup the issue can be resolved. If this also does not work then remove it completely and install it back again.
