    Printer has not yet responded

I have a very short query, hoping to get helped. Using Windows XP with MS Office 2007. Whenever I try printing anything from Word I get this “Printer has not yet responded.”

Can anyone please tell me why does it happen? How can I get rid of the same?

Hi, you must know that MS Word actually relies on the printer information for presenting the document properly on your display. You should open Word and see if available printer driver is selected. Click File and Select Print to check the same.

    Possible fix

Trying all the above didn't work unfortunately, but this did for my networked HP printer:

    • Install the printer driver on the affected PC
    • Printers and Faxes > Add Printer
    • Select Local Printer, but untick 'Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer', click Next
    • Select Create a new port and select 'Standard TCP/IP Port', click Next and Next
    • Enter the IP address of your printer, click Next, click Finish
    • Click 'Have Disk', navigate to where you installed the printer driver and select the INF file, click Open, click OK
    • If you're prompted to overwrite the existing driver, do so
    • The rest of the prompts may differ from printer to printer but should be self-explanatory; the printer then installs
    • Microsoft Word 2003 now correctly sees the printer

This worked for me; see if this helps everyone!
I use a network printer, and am not always connected to the network. In that case, Word tries to detect the default printer and pops this message when it cannot.

Solution - simply set a printer program like Microsoft Office Document Image Writer as your default printer. Voila! No more messages.

windows xp network hp 6400 series all in one prin/fax/scan

It ended up being a very simple fix: Zone Alarm needed to be uninstalled and then we installed Norton instead. Apparently Zone Alarm is not a good match with networks and at some point it denied access from Word to the printer
