| Word 2007 - strange close-down dialog box
Hi I am running Office 2007 Pro SP1 with Vista Ultimate SP1. All applications work fine but as of only yesterday, sometimes when (see below for WHEN & how...) I CLOSE down Word by clicking the Red X, having worked on a document or not, I get a dialog box pop up that says "Microsoft Word has stopped Working. Windows is searching for a solution to the problem." I have to click a "Cancel" button twice more to get Word to close down. This only started happening yesterday. IT ONLY happens when I open a document up externally (from inside My Documents or Windows Explorer for example, which in turn 'opens up Word' and then loads the document). If I open Word up first, then open up a document from the Office Globe/Open Menu from within Word itself, this does NOT happen. Any thoughts on this?? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I often open up documents using Explorer so this is now driving me nuts!! Rgds Rod |

Yes, I have run the Microsoft Office-Diagnostic. The suggested solution (download fie)did not (so far-after one week) help. Check for updates for Flash and Java. I was having this problem too and it disappeared after making these updates (as strange as it may seem). Good luck "wickedxyx" <wickedxyx@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6895455D-1FC3-456A-A112-573E792B4B60@microsoft.com... > hi guys. > > i think i'm having the same problem (Office Crashes and Update Errors > post). > Has either of you run the Office Maintenance program included in the > Office > Tools? | Re: Word 2007 - strange close-down dialog box
MS OFFICE 2007 (Word,Excel,PowerPoint) - crash/close/bug/problem - when DIALOG BOX launched...while opening files, inserting images, saving files,... ================================================ SOLUTION: adjust the folder settings, probably depending on what your personal changes there... 1) set the icon size || CONTROL PANEL - Display - View Tab - Advanced - in the left drop down menu set ICON - set size to some fix value (example 36). (This solved the problem for me. Because I changed the size of icons in some directories, and that's when the problems started.) 2) if 1) doesn't work, reset the folder settings || CONTROL PANEL - Folder Settings - in General Tab - click the only button to reset folder settings 3) if that isn't enough just reset the folder settings and behaviour as at the beginning ================ In my case, MS OFFICE worked fine, till I changed the view options and behavior of folders (size of icons, view icons in directory ICON/THUMBNAIL/DETAILS/... ..). At first MS WORD would crash each time I wanted to insert an image - at the moment the DIALOG BOX launched. After changing settings further it started to crash each time I wanted to open a file in MS EXCEL, and so on.... Probably the problem is that the launched DIALOG BOX belonging to MS OFFICE is confused about the folder view settings in WINDOWS XP (and maybe behaviour, didn't check it) of the folder that should be displayed in the DIALOG BOX of MS OFFICE. For example, in my case insert image in MS WORD crashed because of the folder settings in WINDOWS XP of exactly the folder that should be displayed in the launched DIALOG BOX of insert image in MS WORD. Didn't try to figure out all the details... Uninstalling MS OFFICE didn't work! |
