Dear senfunn , socket 754 cpus can not be placed over socket 939 and if you are looking for a pc in range of 40k and that too amd 64 ones go for AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ( This is a socket 754 ) don't worry about the upgrade options as every day we see a new thing only part is do we really need to use that , and these processors are damn good as compared for gaming and stuff. For mobo go for MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R, this board offers good price vs performance ratio. Rest you can decide as per your budget.

I asked CI today for a AMD 64 combo and he quoted me a ASUS K8N + AMD 3200 for Rs16000 . Sound like a good deal. I myself am looking for a AMD config so might as well pick this up. Guys MSI SLI mobo is also available for a woophing price Rs 16000 for the motherboard.

    question

    Hi guyz...

HAve almost finalized my config ...its not that hi end but like to share it

    AMD64 3000+ (I think its 754 socket as its Rs 8100)
Asus nforce 3 non deluxe mobo = 5600Rs
XFX 6600 GT grafix processor =13500 Rs
    512 mb hynix ram (400mhz) =Rs 4500
    plextor dvd writer 16x =6250Rs
seagate 120gb SATA hdd =4750 Rs
    Altec lansing 2.1 av300 =Rs 1400
    cabinet +logitech opical mouse +keyboard = 2500Rs
    UPS = 2000Rs
Pinnacle TV tuner card = 2600 Rs

So my total cost is coming around 52000 Rs

And my budget is around 43K

Can you help me out a bit as to how can i get it down...and probably i dont wanna compromise on GFX card...PLZ PLZ PLZ reply ASAP

Also will it make sense if i downgrade from amd64 3000+ to amd64 2800 as it will save around a thousand bucks.

    Thanks
    Draz

    If u can manage to get A 64 3200+ (2.0) its even better..dont get A 3000+ winchester..as its only run @ 1.8ghz.

Sorry cannt tell you about the prices...as i dont visit Nehru Place as i used to be in earlier days.

AMD 64 3000+ is the best thats available in bangalore right now. Pretty sad but thats it. Also amd 3000+ 754 socket comes in 2 versions...one with 1.8ghz and 1024kb L2 cache and the other is with 2.0ghz and 512kb ghz. Dunno which one my dealer is giving.

Also and thankz for ur advice have dropped DVD writer and floppy drive :-) from my budget. Going for a simple cd rom. Also scaled don my TV tuner card from pinaccle to mercury) that saving aother 1100rs. So now estimate is 43k. Pretty ok.

also thinkin of kingston or transcend RAMS instead of hynix.

Lets see if it fits in my budget.

And "Ghost" u r right about the tv tuner card but the TV at my house is captured by soap operas which i cant bear. So have to get a tv tuner card to catch up on some hbo and star movies and channel v.

Also have dropped the idea of scaling down to amd64 2800 as the diff is only one thousand . Will do that just in case it can accomodate kingston rams in my config

there is hardly any diff between 2800 & 3200. you wont notice it 95% of the time u use your pc

dont buy hynix - only 1 year warrenty.

    kingston/transcend - 3 years warrenty.

    and here is a shocker.
Hynix works the best, tried 6 different sticks, 3 different batches( i own 4 and 2 are from my friends).
    No I am not joking.
I know they come with only 1 year warranty but the chips used are very good.
My Hynix chips are running at CL2. Actiually at 2,3,3,5. I had transcend which cannot run at CL2 and neither does my brother's kingston. In any case dont get kingston. it dosent overclock well at all. Hardly goes to 220 FSB.
My Hynix did 260FSB at 2.7V on my P4.
No other value ram did that. The secret? Hynix has BH-5 chips.

well not if you buy from the proper dealers.
I have one fixed dealer who is very honest and he wont try to sell you whatever he has.
He is genuine and he himself will frankly tell you whats best. One of the few dealer who will actiually advice you to get AMD system over Pentium.
Name is Mnemonic systems. You simply cant go wrong with them. They are official Rashi dealers, official AMD certified dealer, official Intel certified dealer, ASUS priority dealer, Gigabyte authorised dealer.

Did you guys really get original HYNIX modules?? Or just Hynix chips? I have never got original Hynix. All I could find was some ram with Hynix chips.
Once I was really-really lucky and got 2 sticks of Original Samsung memory with BH-5 chips.

BH-5 is Winbond BH-5 ICs. They are no longer made anymore. Until the TCCD samsung chips arrived, they were the only ones that could do 2-2-2-5 timings at DDR 400.
Athlon 64 3000+, Asus K8N-E Deluxe, 1GB DDR400, BBA 9800 Pro, WD Raptor 36GB, 160 GB 'Cuda SATA, NEC ND-3500A, SB Audigy LS, Altec Lansing 251.
