upgrading ram on HP Envy Spectre

I am having a HP Envy Spectre and it has been working just great but now I am willing to upgrade its ram to 8 gb for gaming. The specification of the laptop is as followed, I wanted to know whether 2x4gb will be a better choice or 1x8 gb?? Which model should I prefer?
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 128GB or 256GB mSATA solid-state drive
    • Intel Rapid Start Technology
    • Intel Core i5 and i7 ULV Processors
    • 4GB of DDR3
    • Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 + Bluetooth (2x2 Wi-Fi)

I think that going with 2x4gb will be a better option, either you can get a new one from the same model that you might be having else you have the below choices:
    • CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin SO-DIMM DDR3 1333MHz Laptop Memory
    • HEWLETT PACKARD Hewlett Packard 8gb 2rx4 Pc3-10600r-9 Kit Rdimm Dual Rank Registered 1333 Mhz Ddr3 Sdram
    • Kingston Hyper X Blu 8 GB (2x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 XMP

    Hope that helps

Re: upgrading ram on HP Envy Spectre

As far as I am aware HP Envy Spectre has only one ram slot so you won’t be able to go for 2x4gb and you will have to get 1x8 gb ram. As far as the ram is concerned you can get any of the below ones.
    1. Patriot Signature Line 8 GB Memory - SO DIMM 204-pin - 1333 MHz ( PC3-10600 )
    2. Corsair 8 GB Memory - SO DIMM 204-pin - 1333 MHz ( PC3-10600 )
    3. Crucial 8 GB Memory - SO DIMM 204-pin - 1333 MHz ( PC3-10600 )

They all are good and they will work fine with HP Envy Spectre

I have checked about the same and have found the following ones to be the best according to their reviews:
    • G.SKILL Ripjaws x Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
    • 8 GB single Corsair laptop memory RAM DDR3 1333 MHz PC3 10600 CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9
    • Transcend Information 8GB DDR3 1333 Single Module - Laptop Memory 8 (PC3 10600) JM1333KSH-8G
    • Patriot PG38G1333EL G2 Series 8GB single module 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory

I think that Patriot G2 Series DDR3 memory will be the best for gaming. It provides better cooling due to its low-profile Patriot G2 series sport sleek air-craft grade extruded aluminum heat-spreader. It has high-quality pre-screened IC's and you can get 8GB at 1333MHz with 9-9-9-24 timings. Other features of it are as followed:
    • Extreme Performance PC3-10666 (1333MHz)
    • Enhanced Latency (9-9-9-24)
    • Voltage: 1.5V
    • XMP Ready
    • 100% Tested and Verified
    • RoHS Compliant
    • Compatible with Intel 6 Series Platforms which are based on 2nd Gen Intel Core Processors.
