Is it possible to install Intel Core2 Quad Processor and 8Gb ram in dell dimension E520

- I am having dell dimension E520 which actually came with Intel core2 duo E4300 processor and was thinking to get it updated and was about to install Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 but some of my friends says that the motherboard I am having don’t have ability to support this hardware, isn’t it? And apart from that the system actually comes up with the 4Gb of RAM rather I am planning to get it update and install 8GB RAM, so please let me know is it possible to install such hardware with my machine?

I would like to make you aware as the machine you are having supports maximum memory of 4GB, in fact more than that is not even recognize by the BIOS even., so just forget about it.

See though your friends had suggest you something else but still it would be better if you just contact to the dell support center for the same and then see what happens because I think that’s the only source from where you can have proper idea about the hardware compatibility with the existing hardware. So have you ever tried to contact them yet? If not then you should do that first and then only think about updating or else it would be just worthless.

which XPS series you are using by the way because see I believe that the XPS 7xx series the only series which will be able to get the quad processor supports or else the below one must have to use the one which they have gotten with the machine.

I currently have a Q6700 and 8gb of pc6400 installed in my E520. Runs Win 7 64 like a champ. Make sure you have the latest Bios (2.4.0)
