Is it possible 8 AMD Radeon 6990 work on Tyan FT72B7015 MOTHERBOARD?

Hello friends, I have seen on some of website which was having specification which was having a 8 Radeon 6990 graphics card on Tyan FT72B7015 MOTHERBOARD, well I was not sure that it will be working on it or not? If you wanted to know rest of specification which was been used then was having Dual Xeon X5687's overclocked@4GHz, having 144 GB RAM, 26 TB Hard disk, Dual XFX 1250W's power supply. So can you people tell me about it and it is possible to have. Thank you.

Well it is possible as it does have slots for it, such that it will be having 10x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, of two Run at X4 and it is also having 2x PCI-Express 2.0 x1 slots and also 1x 32-bit PCI slot.

Well it is been a part number for a Tyan barebones server designed for GPGPU work and also it is having plenty of 16x slots, if you wanted to check out more information about it then I would suggest that you better go to following link and I would suggest that better look at page 19 where it is having picture and you will get perfect idea about it and also it will clear all your doubts.

Well my friends it is possible of eight Radeon 6990 on Tyan GPU server well I am having one same in my office and work it on daily, but that also depend on a number of factors such that they can all be actually plugged in 8 full-length double-wide PCI-E gen2 x16 slots, and also the BIOS will make out them, if it is running on four PCI-E bridges then each of them have 16 PCI-E lanes on that GPU server beast. Well if you are asking about the software then OpenCL supposed to work to address all 8 devices, other than that they are Dual-GPU, you will have 16 GPUs.

Well once you know about software can support them then after main requirement will be about power requirements. I would tell that you better make sure have B7015F72V2R version or upgraded unit to 3 PSUs which will be giving you 3000W@110V non-redundant power. One more thing which is important that 220V mode is only specified for 2400W + 1Redundant supply, at present cannot confirm that the 220V mode will actually support 3000W. I would like to tell that you better have an extra set of 2x4pin power cables which comes with one set of eight 2x4pin and one set of 2x3pin PCI-E power cables. Even do not try to run graphics cards in 'Extreme Mode' should run in default 'Performance Mode' and also do not overclock GPUs or CPUs.

Well the total power budget on eight 6990s and 2 CPUs will be approximate 3260W, do not need to worry about it and it is unlikely case and even PSU are very much stable. One more thing to add that better have 15A circuits for all 3 PSUs and it is better that have a server room with good ventilation. Well there are plenty of professional servers which are very much noisy.

I would think that another bottleneck could also be the QPI link on the CPUs to feed these GPUs to get the most of it (that will depend on your application). My personal opinion is that this unit with four Radeon 6990 in overclocked mode is a fantastic system, but since I am mostly using CUDA, I have to stick with Nvidia so far (or migrate to OpenCL).
