Does USB 3 port on Gigabyte 890xa-ud3 motherboard need special connection for my cabinet?

Hi, i have Gigabyte 890XA- UD3 motherboard i just wanted to know if i can attach my USB 2 cables to the USB 3 port? I am not sure if USB 3 uses different cables for transmitting the data. Can i have any modification by which i can use USB 3 on my front panel of the cabinet?

USB 3 is compatible with USB 2 but it doesn’t mean that you can use same wire for USB 2 port. There is a separate 4 data wires for USB 3 devices. It will also have different receptors for USB 3 ports. USB 3 receptors are compatible with 2.0 devices but only USB 3 standard B receptors can support USB 3 standard B device. Can’t probably tell if you can do such modification by which you can use USB 3 on your front panel.

USB 3 can perform faster than USB 2 ports. They also provide better power output for connecting those devices. Most of the ports do not need external power co0nnection to run . As this technology has evolved over the period it may be available but i haven’t come across one so can’t tell you precisely.

Hey look for the Cooler master HAF X, it has the front panel with USB 3.0 and it is really impressive. You can upgrade your cabinet for this one or you can have Koutech IO-FPH430 front panel. This panel comes with 4 USB 3.0 port and gives a transmitting speed of 5GBPS. You will only need to buy a separate USB 3.0 cable that will help you connect to the motherboard. You will have to use win7 or windows update plug and play update to use this device.

Hey i have GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 board and it has Etron EJ168 controller on it. I doubt why manufacturer has given me that controller instead of PCI card. I have USB 3 front panel and it has only 19 pins on it not like standard USB 2 which has only 9 pins. I have used external USB 3 hard drive on it and it looks very quick. Now i am looking to fit a front panel on my cabinet.
