Intel i7 2600k dead after oveclocking to 4.5GHz

Hello, i have been using my i7-2600k for a month after overclocking it until it shut down one day automatically. Earlier it was starting for while but later even that also stopped. I changed my power supply and then come to know that my processor is not working. For cross checking i used i5-2500 which ran fine on it. So i have sent my CPU for servicing now. I was using 1.3 voltage controller to run my CPU. I never had any problems while building a system and i have been building such a systems since last decade and they were always successful. Do you think i overclocked my processor too much?

The official limit for overclocking this processor is 1.52V. i have made my CPU reach to 1.45v,and playing the game “Far cry” . I have core i7 920 @ 4.2 GHz. It must be something related to your processor. Your processor must be having some problem in it and only Intel will be able to answer this problem. Never mind i always had bad time with my hard drives. If you have a warranty for your processor then send it to the service center and get a new processor for yourself.

I received the replacement processor, when i installed it back to the motherboard within 15 minute i had hard shut down on my system. Is this related to bad voltage in my motherboard. I have suffered lost of two i7 2600k within a week. When this happened my system’s temperature was hardly around 30 degree. I have replaced my power supply and bought new one now but the problem remains still on my system.

Had you restored your overclocking settings to default before installing new processor? Have you measured any RAM voltage at that time? Check if your processor is burnt? I have come across a case where a guy had his processor burnt badly.later he said that he had his P8P67 motherboard had set the offset voltage. This may be the same case for you as you may be looking to add same settings on your new processor and your motherboard would have added extra offset during processing.

I did not apply overclocking settings on new processor. Overclocking should not be reason for this problem as i was able to use my overclocked system for almost a month, before i sufferd with this problem. The temperature at that time was 44 degree. Speed throttling was fluctuating in the range of 2500mhz-4400mhz and average speed was 2500mhz. I had standard RAM voltage of 1.5V. i have also checked my motherboard for any damage but my all the pins looks fine and there is no damage seen on it.
