Which is much better processor than Intel i7 3930K

I need advise on buying a CPU for me. I am a 3D artist and perform rendering on my home computer, which purely relies on how much GHZ of power you have. Currently i am having a core 2 quad 2.4 GHz does that mean i have 2.4GHz * 4 (number of cores) = 9.6 GHz? I want to buy now intel i7 3930k 3.2GHz boosted to 3.8 GHz with 6 cores. Does that mean i have 3.8ghz * 12 cores = 45.6 GHz of power? I have come across some xenon processors that are specially designed for rendering than i7 but they come with more cost than i7! Is there any processor that comes with same price range but gives you better performance than i7 ?

Intel i73930k has 3.8 GHz which means each core will be running at 3.8 GHz. If you are running 4 different applications at same time then each application will be functioning 3.8 GHz. Each of this core is independent of the other so you can’t add them to make sum of all. If you are using a 3D design application then it is designed to utilize all the cores of the computer and your system performance will increase. You can contact the software developer to ask whether you can make use of the multiple cores.

The software that i am using for rendering is “autodesk Maya” with Vray 2.0. this software actually has the option from which you can select the number of cores you want to use. This means that i can add total number of cores while rendering and i will have 45.6 GHz of power. Subtract the amount of power needed for running the windows on your system.

In case of the “autodesk Maya” software it has the option to select the number of cores for completing the specific task. This software divide the task into smaller parts and then divide them to all the cores. So all the cores will be performing the task at 3.8 GHz. By this way all the cores will take same speed for completing the task in same time. All the cores will perform at same speed that is 3.8GHz but perform more or less work in same time. it doesn’t depend on number of cores you have and do not sum up cores. They work individually.

There are some tasks that can be divided by the application but sometimes some applications can’t divide task into the number of cores present in your system. It depends on the task that processor is processing at particular time. so if you have 10 core processor with 3.0 GHz then it will take 3-4 minutes for processing the particular task of rendering.
