2x2GB(2 slots) vs 1x4GB(1 slot)

Hi friends,

I want to know the difference between 1*4GB and 2*2GB.
Is it that using 2*2GB, only 1 slot is used at a time, so only 2 GB will be used at a time? and if that slots fails only then the second slot would be used?
And if I use 1*4 GB, the whole 4GB will be used and I will then get better speed.
Please tell me if I am correct. I am very commoner in computers so don,t have great knowledge.
I am using AMD athlon 64 X2 processer
Windows 7 OS

Please assist
Thanks

As far as my consent It doesn't matter what the setup is as long as the total RAM is the same so just go with whatever is cheapest still 2X2GB is better. It has Room for expandability and less stress on memory controller.it Is easy for you to do isolation as you can reduce to 1x2G by turn to isolate which one get into trouble.
