    Need help with K7T266: Athlon XP M 3000 & 100 vs. 133

I bought a K7T266 Pro2 RU back in the year 2001. The board was replaced twice in the first five or six years - something about a bad capacitor. It was a very reliable board and threw it - even heavily loaded with the RAID drives and all slots full. Earlier this year I took the storage card to create a system with Ubuntu for use as a computer on the Internet. For some reason the system freezes after random intervals. I tried XP and it was not the same. After a month of testing and replacing it - PS, RAM, video card, so I gave up and put it back.
About using an XP-M 3000 + with this board, is there anyone here yet with the established and if so, was there a problem? Since my CPU is probably wrong somehow, I'd go ahead and mod my board, flash the beta version of BIOS and put in the 3000 + chip. If anyone has any suggestions will be greatly respected.

Sounds more like a dry condenser of a bad CPU. Either that, or 500W power supply is a selling point. 462 pin CPU XP-M mobile should work on the board. You can even function as a proper laptop CPU, changing the load multiplier, using RMClock. Well I had a barton mobile RMClock a Via KT600 board x6 running multiple x11 idle and full load, 202fsb. In your situation, you can run from x6 to x16 to 133fsb. But I do not think RMClock is available for Linux operating systems.

It is no longer available. To save space, we they removed all the attachments of the issues that had not been active for several years. To be completely honest, this board is considered 'old' and not really worth repairing more. With a modest small investment, you can get a new motherboard; CPU, memory and power supply, and have a new system that can easily be left behind to the current configuration.

Well, you can find a good copy of the BIOS 3.74 and showed it and its a good start. It seems a lot of people out there still using so-called "old" together. Also remove the mounting cap C37. At this point I'd like you want to get a XP-M chip and see what happens, but I'm more inclined to a dry electrolytic cap. I hope this is not the case, but such things happen, especially in a period of years.

Hey buddy well I don’t have much idea about this because I didn’t have such kind of problems ever. But I would try to help you. As I asked my friends about this problem, they told me that the problem could be due to one or more than one slots. It can also be the issue of memory incompatibility. So I would prefer you to try with every memory stick and in each slot. I hope this solves really your problem.

Although the swollen lids are classic sign of bad caps, but can also escape from base or simply dried without showing signs of deformity. You could try to put your finger on the top of the tops, while about the power that is running. If one of them is very hot, then I would say they are failing. So I would prefer you to at least try it and check whether is it still hot enough or not. So all the best.

Well, I do not think MSI made the capacitors; it is not a producer of components. As you said it’s most likely the caps and it seems that this is the best direction to take at this point. It would have been nice if it were something that involves less work. However, it is rarely enough to replace one or two covers at a time, everyone has to be replaced. Perhaps that is because the tension will be more difficult in that not replaced. I think you should go find another Socket a motherboard, preferably one a little more recent.
