I think, yes it is possible to use the intel core 2 duo e8400 on asus p5gd1-fm motherboard because both peripherals are based on LGA775 socket and Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Socket 775 (3.0GHz) comes with 1333FSB 6MB L2 Cache. Could you also tell us what is your full system configuration and for what purpose you are building a new comp?

my full system is :-windows xp sp3, nvidea 8400 gs graphic card, 2g ram, asus p5gd1-fm mobo, p4 (3.4ghz)cpu. it's not a new build just gradually trying to upgrade. already done the ram and gpu. it's going to be used for gaming, web browsing music and vids.
