Can the GTX 580 SLI x16 work in x8 PCI express slot

I'm about to get my second GTX 580 "SLI here I come." So later than much reading, I came across some people who have no second consecutive card slot PCI Express 8x. I have a Gigabyte UD7 with x16 / x16 / x8 / x8, so it will extra room card to breath. The cause for this is to lower the temperature of the second card with a smallest amount loss of FPS (say 2-3 maximum FPS). Is there anybody here who can confirm this? And it is the way forward? If anyone has any idea or any information about this than, please provide me.

Here I just want to say something in this case. How much I know about this I must say no. If you have the third PCIe x16 slot engaged the next slot only runs at x8. If you are only using two sure they are running on x16. $ 1000 graphics cards running just as 16x. I have 2 580 SB think I will return to that market. I wish to buy one motherboard with a NF200 chipset for my two 580s run a 16x.

Yes you are right, but I am concerned about the temperatures? They are very close in the 2 PCI Express x16. Just thought I would not have much of a dissimilarity to place one in the PCI Express x8 slot, so obtaining the separation between the cards to keep temperatures down. I will attempt to see what the temperatures are when you receive the card. So what you say here, I mean what your opinion in this?

When I looked at PCI-E 2.0 bandwidth limitations a few months ago, when researching motherboards I looked at 5970 and the 480s and 480s was not limited at all by 2.0 x8, while 5970 showed the lowest scores in benchmarks synthetic using x8 2.0 - was not a mayor down, but that about 10 percent. For a single card solution x8 2.0 is not a limitation. Now I cannot remember exactly where I found all my banks, but I came from 3-4 different sites and compared their results could XS. Just search more on Google and you will find.

Here I also have the same trouble and I just read on the Gigabyte X58 UD7 and it seems that the first slot PCI Express 2.0 x16, x8 is the second and the third is x16. So the trouble is solved. I have 2 x PCI Express x16 and I get the space between the cards so you can keep temperatures at a minimum. Well done Gigabyte. And as over person say about the googling, its really helpful. Thank you so much google too.

Sorry for small necro, but I'm in the same boat as you, I bought my cards in November while the system was purchased last January. I did not know that shit has such a configuration UD7 PCI-E. I am currently running both cards at x16, but basically they are stacked side by side, temperatures in the fist that rises to 93 after heavy gaming and benchmarking. I am also discussing giving up the x16 in the interest of better cooling. How do running?
