Upgrade Intel core 2 Duo E8400 to Intel 2400 processor

Presently I am using Intel core 2 Duo E8400 at 3.6 GHz CPU with an HD4870. Now is it possible to gain more than this if I switched to Intel 2400. The only performance I am seeking from my computer is from gaming. I couldn't discover a straight assessment on the internet however from I've assembled there isn't a vast dissimilarity (in relation to 5-10 fps). Furthermore, if I would advance toward an AMD 6850 would my existing processor be the bottleneck or is it various methods to set off previous to fitting one?

I am also in the precise identical problem. I as well encompass an E8400 at 3.6 GHz. Moreover have a 5850, almost certainly got a second later. I cooperate at 1650 x 1050 resolutions for the reason that my monitor is restricted toward that. Right now I am thinking on digging up the new i5 2500K rather than 2400. However furthermore thinking in support of the new-fangled Bulldozer IvyBridge from AMD. I think that I should hang around until they came out.

I think that other than upgrading the processor you should go for overclock the CPU if you want more from what you are currently having. Sometimes it will really helpful to get near CPU power compare to other one by overclocking the existing one. If you are specifically looking for a gaming performance then upgrade the graphics card to nVidia GTX460 or better. If this is not possible wait for Sandy Bridge or AMD/Bulldozer.

If your motherboard is compatible for that processor then I would recommended you to go for upgrade as soon as possible. Of course you will get much more than the current one. Otherwise you should try to overclock to get the little performance. Before that I suggest you to compare both processors bench mark value along with similar graphics card and see what you will get. If you obtain much variation in result then upgrade to new processor otherwise overclocking is the better option.
