    Setting Dram voltage for Intel i7 930

    I have just configured a PC by myself. This the first time I have configured any CPU. I have several doubts in that. So I need several advice from you to make sure that I am doing the right thing. This is also the first experience in overclocking a brand new chip. The system specifications are as follows.
    • Intel i7 930 (Hyper 212+ HSF)
    • Asus P6T motherboard
    • Corsair 1600 XMS 6GB RAM
    • 690 II Basic cabinet(2 140mm exhaust fans top, 120mm front intake, 120 rear exhaust, 120mm bottom left exhaust)
    • EVGA 470 superclocked Graphic card

    The BIOS settings are as follows.
    Set up as X.M.P. It Reads:
    • QPI/DRAM Core Voltage ==1.35
    • Dram bus Voltage ==1.66

    Range of the core temperatures varies from 38*c to 44*c at idle. The overall temperature are in 70*C to 74*C range. Now my question is, is it safe to scuttle the DRAM voltage at 1.66v?

    I have seen all your BIOS settings details. All seems to be perfect for me. I was very impressed by your choice of configuration. It is a good specification that everyone wants to have it in their computer. As far as your question concern there is no problem in running RAM at 1.66v. The actual thing is you can apply anywhere among 1.64 to 1.66v for RAM. And it’s the safe setting also. The main thing should consider about here is the CPU voltage. You must change the voltage of CPU to the minimum value. I hope that you can get it somehow. 3.5GHz will work for you on 1.24v. If it can’t then raise it to small amount. I hope that you got the right answer.

    Do you really need to set it up to XMP profile? As far as my advice is get rid of XMP profile. Then set Dram voltage to 1.65volts. I think it is the safe option. It seems to me that with your current settings the temperature might be going to rise without any reason. So set the dram and CPU voltage properly to get rid of the temperature issue. Otherwise it may blow up your recent configuration. It might not be possible for you set the voltage to 1.66 directly. You need to configure some settings manually in order to acquire result.

    I surely agree about setting the RAM timing down. At some stage in my testing I just put the multiplier at x8 XMP put out of action whilst to acquire dissimilar OCs and retested just the once I set the memory at the uppermost sustained speed. I presently having the corsair DDR3 2000memory which is at uncore x20, multiplier x10 and at 1.64v. I think that you have found the solution why to change the voltage.
