Hi,
I have an Intel DG41RQ motherboard with 4 SATA ports. I have a Seagate Barracuda (500GB 7200rpm) drive connected to port 0 of the motherboard and it works perfectly fine. Windows 7 64-bit is installed on that drive. I intend to install an identical drive for backups and linux-testing.
My problem is that whenever I connect a drive to port 1 (2nd port) and boot the computer, the motherboard detects it, the OS boots-up, but after sometime (about 5 to 15 minutes) the hard disk disappears from the OS (including the Device Manager).
I believe the problem is hardware, and not software, related since this happens with all drives I connect to the port. Skimming through some websites, I read that there is a rule to connect OS-drive to ports 0 & 1 (1st and 2nd ports), and data-drives to ports 2 & 3 (3rd and 4th ports). So, is this correct? If yes, please explain what it is and why? If no, please suggest some solution (hardware, software, or firmware).
Also, I would like to know from where I can buy a SATA PCI-card in India online.
Thanks in advance for help.
