Intel DP55WG not rebooting by "shutdown -r now"

I am having an Intel DP55WG motherboard with an i7-750 core. This machine has a support of 4Gb ram with ans an os FreeBSD 8.1 - BIOS 5531. When i typing the command "shutdown -r now" then the system should get rebooted but it didn't. Then i tried "shutdown -p now" command then it got turned off perfectly. What is the problem here?

The shutdown command can stop the computer or another computer on the network (for networks). Many options are available, why only 4 of these will be detailed.
Note: For MS-DOS (or CMD in Windows NT, 2000 and XP) to obtain a command, simply type the command name followed by a space and a slash (/) and a question mark.
Example: To enter the shutdown command is: shutdown /? [Entry]
    Switches (options):
    -S enables the shutdown
    -R to restart the computer
-F to force the action (FORCE)
-T xx will validate the time in seconds before stopping.
The-r and-s can be used simultaneously.
Example: shutdown-r-t 60 Restart the computer after 60 seconds.

My problem is bit different as 0 23 1 * * root / etc / sysconfig / shutdown-r now did not work (even though the folder exists) but 0 23 1 * * root shutdown-r now worked perfectly (of course with another day and another time). Due to the action are the way 7 x 1.5 TB disks, which want to perform a reboot (after a long time), a disk check (... xxx has gone days without being checked, check forced....) and thus the server to 4-5 hours is unusable. With the help of the entry in the crontab (23 clock), he is now ready before dawn.

To flash BIOS uses specialized tools on the motherboard manufacturer or third-party programmers who write and firmware image to the chip CMOS. CMOS in modern mothers is a flash-memory, which stores the firmware itself and configure BIOS. Thus, for the firmware needed, in fact, a file with the correct BIOS version and the program-flasher. There are a flasher under Windows, as well as under DOS. Flash from within Windows is much more convenient, but DOS is traditionally more reliable. To identify all aspects of flashing BIOS, we pierced from under Windows XP, and from under DOS.

If your BIOS is not sewn to the end, and a chip in the system can help a rather risky method: It is the same motherboard, powered on after booting the machine was, to a deduction of defective CMOS and the socket fits a couple of threads that You can easily remove the chip by pulling on them. Then a seat is very carefully put the damaged counterpart. You can then run the firmware firmware, and then off to change the chip back. According to statistics, during the "hot" replacement CMOS, working motherboard is damaged 15% of cases.

Sometimes there is a problem of determining the manufacturer of the motherboard and installed it on the chipset. To solve this problem, it is sufficient at the start of the boot record string that provides BIOS. In addition, since 1998, all mounted BIOSes at boot time display of the logo of the manufacturer. Further, any search engine will return all the information about your motherboard in this line. True, if the board sekondhend and taken to the radio market, no one can guarantee that the logo and information line has not been altered. What to do if the BIOS is password? In this case, there are three options:
    1) reset the CMOS a special jumper on the motherboard, or simply remove the battery.
    2) use of engineering passwords, a list which you can see in the box (though they may not work)
    3) to crack the password to the BIOS.

Getting to update the BIOS, it should be remembered that the consequences of failure of this operation can be fatal in nature: when damaged or "firmware" incorrect microcode loading system would be impossible. In other words, your "broker" will lose the memory or will attempt to communicate with the hardware I do not understand his language. But at the same time should not be overly afraid of this procedure, because sometimes a new version of the basic input / output system can significantly improve the performance of your PC, since firmware update producer seeks to correct the deficiencies identified in earlier versions. In addition, modern tools update minimize the possibility of wrong "fill" BIOS code from a different model of motherboard. Perhaps the only real danger which may hinder the successful implementation of updating BIOS, - this interrupt the process of "flashing" due to power failure or system hangs.
