4GB RAM Intel Pentium T4400 Processor vs 2GB Intel i3-330m?

My brother has asked me for a laptop. He needs it for everything i.e. for playing games and for dealing with all the stuffs from the college. So, I have decided to present him on his birthday in the coming month. Now I am sitting to decide the configurations for the laptop. I have come across two processors Intel Pentium T4400 and Intel i3-330m. I do not know why but one of my colleague suggested me to go with the Intel Pentium T4400 with 4GB RAM. Will the increase in RAM make Intel Pentium T4400 better than Intel i3-330m?

Well you have already decided the laptop I guess. You did not ask anything regarding the laptop. Now you have asked regarding the processor. Intel T4400 has the 2.2GHz clock speed and it is somewhat slower and when it comes to the i3-330M it is 2.13GHz. So you can see there is a huge difference when we have just started to compare the two. If you are going for bigger applications then I think the i3-330M would be better and if you want to keep the things simple the T4400 would be enough.

If you have not decided the laptop yet and you want to go with the Intel T4400, then I guess that you should go for the Gateway NV5469ZU 15.6. It is quite a pretty laptop, and some of the reviews have already started to come off with the Intel T4400 processor. The laptop has 2.2GHz Intel T4400, with 4GB RAM and 320GB hard disk at a reasonable price. With this laptop the reviews of the processor is somewhat good and if you are doing lighter things as well.

I am also caught between this two processors and I really cannot see much difference between the two. The only difference that I can see is with respect to the price. When I go with the Intel T4400 processor I will have to spend a lot of fewer amounts and when I go with the Intel i3-330m the price increase to a much higher stage. I want to have Windows 7 on the laptop. The question is the price difference worth. Will the i3 run long?

Yes to your whole response I think that I need to say that yes Intel i3-330 is a candidate to run the long race. I want to clear one thing for you that if at all you are thinking of the 4GB RAM Intel T4400 then it will be available for running applications like .doc, .pdf and Internet. If you are going with the 2GB Intel i3-330, then in addition to all the things above can also go for gaming and video editing.

Re: 4GB RAM Intel Pentium T4400 Processor vs 2GB Intel i3-330m?

I am going to list the difference between the two processors above. First I will say regarding the Intel T4400 processor:
    • It has 2 cores and 2 threads.
    • The speed of the clock is 2.2GHz.
    • The Level 2 cache is about 1MB
    • The front side bus is 800MHz

    Now regarding the intel i3-330m:
    • It has 2 cores and 4 threads.
    • The speed of the clock is 2.13GHz.
    • It has Intel Smart cache of 3MB.

Now I think that you can yourself make the conclusion.

I think that I need to summarize the things as each and everyone is coming up with the same opinion and even I agree to it. T4400 is good for the one that are going to use the laptop for doing the lighter things. While doing so they will be saving a lot of battery of their laptop, but on the same note will be limited in using the applications. The one who will be using the Intel i3-330m will be able to run many applications and play games but the battery life of their laptop will not be guaranteed.
