    DDR2 Memory Speeds

    Hello all,
I want to know weather the RAM really matters for the speed of the computer. Can it affect the computer speed and how? I have computer with DDR2-SDRAM, 160 GB hard Drive, Intel core 2 duo processor. My current RAM runs at 533mhz and I want to upgrade it.I have heard about Kingston KHX6400D2K2 ram, It is DDR2?

Yes, In multitasking speed of the RAM is the most important part. If you are opening any application then your processor will search for how the application should be executed. Those instructions should be in the memory at the time of execution otherwise it will not work properly. Your RAM should have enough memory to load the application, If it does not have that then it will use the concept of paging where the part of program having more priority will be loaded first and as the parts are not needed the it will be flushed off from memory.
Technical word for parts is Chunks and loading means bringing one copy of data from hard disk to RAM.

    Re: DDR2 Memory Speeds

When you are multitasking that means you are using more than one program at a time then memory will send the components back to the hard drive. It is then placed in virtual memory and is taken back to the memory when needed. Virtual memory is the memory which is temporary created when your RAM can not load the program. This process is known as Swapping. Therefore Speed of your computer depends on your RAM.

Speed of the computer is also depends on the Processor you are using. If you have 533MHz FSB CPU and your computer speed is not increasing even by changing your RAM then You need to change your processor too and use some latest processor which can increase your computer speed. IT is true that RAM increases the speed of computer but it is with the combination of other computer parts.

Your computer lets you adjust the memory clock speed by BIOS setting but only if your computer uses DDR2 Memory. But remember that your computer may be damaged by overclocking. Overclocking means that you are allowing your computer to run at faster speed then it is designed for and lowering the setting may lowers the performance also. But it will never Hurt your computer’s performance.

    Re: DDR2 Memory Speeds

You can also change the speed of BIOS for DDR2 memory. Just follow the simple steps:
    1. Restart your computer doesn't matter which operating system you are using.
    2. press F2 when PC starts. It will let you to to the setup option.
    3. Go to computer setup tab on BIOS setting screen and click the option that lets you to control memory speed.
    4. Use pull down menu to select memory speed.
    5. Let the operating system boot your system.
    6. your new setting will take effect after the change. If memory speed does not change the reboot your system.
    7. If your new setting is not affecting performance of your computer then keep the setting otherwise you can return to original settings.

Hope these steps will help you.

    Re: DDR2 Memory Speeds

DDR2 memory is also a kind of computer memory. DDR2 memory is called SDRAM. User can open multiple processes at a time on the same computer and this process is called multitasking that means we are performing multiple task at a time. It is an advance version of DDR SDRAM. It has ability to operate the data at double rate. It stores memory in small parts called cells. Clock cells activate these signals. Old computers that are made for DDR will not support DDR2 and the opposite is also true.

There are many more things about DDR2 RAM but at the time this is the basic information which I have provided.
