Booting / RAM problems

Hello

I have a pc with quad core intel chip, 8gb RAM and 2 hard drives, each drive has a different o/s ... ubuntu on one and Oracle Enterprise Linux on the other.

The pc was working fine, then i rebooted and all of a sudden there was no output to the screen, I checked the graphics cards and they were fine...

the only way I got the PC to even boot as far as the bios was by removing on f the ram sticks (4 x 2gb) .... when i remove a ram stick it boots up .... but after a while freezes and reboots on its own!

It doesnt appear to matter which ram stick i take out to make it at least boot up ... its just when all 4 are in it wont even boot as far as the bios...

Has anyone ever faced a similar problem as this or know a solution?

You didn't mentioned which quad core intel cpu do you have? What is the model? Ideally if you are running a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit cpu then it will not run. However if you have 32 bit OS running on a 64 bit cpu then it will be running slow. So check it what's the architecture of your cpu and if you have your OS accordingly supported. The total size of ram that you can run on a computer depends on your OS completely. I hope I was clear in my statement.
