Problem With intel Core 2 Quad Processor

    Hello.

I recently downloaded the intel processor id utility and it told me that my processor's expected speed is 2.4Ghz, whereas I am only getting 1.59Ghz in each core. What could the problem be? Any help would be appreciated.

    My system specs are

Windows Vista Home Premeium 32-bit SP2
    Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
    3.5GB RAM
    Gigabyte P35-DS4 Motherboard
ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Card

    Thanks

Are all the four cores running on your CPU? Check it with the utility that you are running or else use CPU-Z. Do you have any option to enable the cores in the BIOS? Check it because there are some motherboards which do have such an option to limit the number of cores.

You can try to go in Control Panel under Power Options.
XP - set to Desktop PC (or something like that).
Vista - set to High Performance.

This will disable Cool & Quiet in each operating system. Look in the bios for anything like CPU throttling or anything similar, then disable it. Some processors automatically throttle back when idling to reduce power consumption. When you stress them by opening a program or doing something like that, their speed goes back to normal. See if that works.

I think all 4 cores are working the program says im getting 1.59Ghz from each core.

I went into the BIOS and the only 3 settings to do with the CPU were:
    CPU Hyper Threading - Enabled
Limit CPUID Max to 3 - Disabled
    CPU Enhanced Halt - Enabled

Would these have anything to do with it?

I also set the Power Options to high performance and it hasnt changed the speeds

Are you using any software for oveclocking/underclocking the processor? You can use many overclocking tools to increase your clock speed of the processor, read more about it here - Guide on How to safely Overclock your computer and Overclocking guide in charts

You can also try to install more ram/ faster ram because the faster the RAM can transmit data to the CPU, the faster the quad core CPU can process it. Try to increase CPU cooling. You also need to ensure your processor can run as fast as possible and for that you need to make sure it can access data from the hard drive efficiently.
