AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ Overheating

I am having a system that runs on AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ processor. Today when I turned on my pc after five minutes of boot the pc turned off. I checked and found that this was due to overheating of the cpu. I installed a temperature monitor application which showed me a very high at the start itself. I opened the case and found that the fan is working quiet fine here. There is no issue with that. What should I do to keep my cpu cooler while working. It will be really complicated to work this way.

Here your cpu fan might be working well. But the rpm would be low which is causing the issue. I will advice you to get a good cpu fan that can help you to deal with the problem. The best fan upgrade according to me is Zalman 9500. It is a great fan with good cooling solution and you also get a good rpm on the same. I had replaced my stock fan with this where I got a 10degree fall in the temperature. And things are working well. It is also better to add a thermal paste on the fan so that it can pull out more heat.

There are few extreme coolers available that can simply protect your processor form getting burned. You can try out Scythe Ninja. It is a big cooler that offer you 150mm heatsink. It also has a big size fan that can draw out maximum heat from the system. And if you want to go with a budget one then you can try out what is mentioned above. You can test Zalman 9500. But it is a bit noisy fan. There are ample of fans like this which can help you to get good cooling output that will enhance your processing power.

Re: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ Overheating

Based on the diagram, there are two other probable HSF that you might want to judge. The AC Freezer 64 Pro close to the top of the diagram, and the Turniq Tower at the base of the diagram. Both can chill down the overclocked Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.42GHz down to 57C, however the Turniq Tower does not arrive through a fan.

    1 degree Celcius = 1.8 degree Fahrenheit
    • 60C = 140F
    • 59C = 138.2F
    • 57C = 134.6F
