    Upgrade from athlon 64 x2 4000 to 6000+

    Hello, I bought an Acer Aspire M3100 computer more precisely, I would change the processor because I found the limit for supported games today. My processor is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000 + my motherboard is an Acer F690GVM:
    Properties of the main bus
    -Bus Type AMD Hammer
    -Real Clock 200 MHz
    -Effective Clock 200 MHz

    I would replace this processor with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ so I wanted to know if it is possible to change it. Thank you in advance.

    I will advice if you want to update it is to keep the motherboard default there on your Acer. And there you will see the FSB of your motherboard, and then you can buy amd athlon x2 6000 +. Otherwise if you want to change your motherboard after all depends what you call current games. As a mark of motherboard I recommend:
    - Foxconn (very rare to find but very good);
    - Gigabyte;
    - Asus.

    I think you can take a athlon 64 x2 more powerful because I think it will work: a 6000 + so not bad for games that you want to play and quite adequate. An update of the 4000 + in bios before putting the 6000 +. Otherwise:
    Your supports the processors following:
    ◦ Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core technology with up to 5600+ (Up to 89 watts)

    AMD reiterates its full range of processors, and its Dual Core model is no exception to the rule. He also underwent a makeover to be equipped with a memory controller supporting DDR2. This change is accompanied by a change in the processor socket but remains faithful, in broad terms, an architecture that has its strength and reputation in the computer world. The Athlon 64 X2 always have a Hyper Transport bus technology and AMD 64, two assets that make them as efficient with existing 32-bit applications with 64-bit future.

    In the one hand you must upgrade the RAM center (regardless of whether it is shared), 256MB is not enough for the games must be at least 512 MB or better conditions for 1 GB. For the graphics card, yours is integrated into the motherboard and is low quality. And again it did not own memory, it encroaches on the central RAM. This is slower than BCP video memory, AC reduces this side perf. DC must buy a graphics card that will be significantly better than the built in and benefit from changing its own memory. I'm too ensconced in what is a moment, but the average ranges are around the GeForce 6800 (nVidia), should see multiple offers and above all value for money.

    Basically the processer is 200 MHz, and with the AMD it gives us a FSB of 400 MHz. But it is the first value that must refer. In fact it is because the RAM is synchronized with the external CPU clock (FSB), and so far as to use the correct type of memory, especially as this was important to know value for 200 MHz FSB is the maximum frequency. So you must opt for the works so DDR3200 200 MHz internally (and 400 MHz externally). One thing to check however. That memory is already shipped a 3200. I think that's the case because I do not know if a PC can successfully operate in desync (unless the motherboard permitting).

    Your motherboard should be GP 8x (talking about the plug which fits the graphics card). It is therefore compatible with all AGP graphics card until ATI HD3850. However, your system is very old and would restrain such a card. It is better for you to try to find a Radeon 1650 Pro or Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT (AGP), ideally used for the AGP cards are expensive now.
