Processor Speed Comparison

I'm having a HP desktop computer. I had installed Windows Xp on it. I'm having AMD Athlon 64 X2 Core Processor 4200+Dual along with having 2GB of RAM. I basically using it for Photoshop and Dreamweaver/web design work and it works fine for all my needs. I'm planning to buy out a new Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6500 having 4GB Ram along with having Windows Vista on it. Now i would like to know that will this laptop be a downgrade in performance for me? Is there any way by which i can go for processor speed comparison? Any body have any idea about it? Kindly provide me the correct information on the above issue. Thanks.

There are many factors that can skew the results and make a graph misleading. CPU Benchmark results are submitted by users to the CPU Speed Pro worldwide ranking web site. As such it is necessary to have some background understanding of the data being presented. CPU Speed peforms a wide range of tests which are then compared with results from other CPUs to determine the global CPU rating for a processor.

The only valid comparison would be one that involves all devices running the same software. Since the devices in that comparison are not, I don't put much stock in it. In the case of these CPU Benchmarks there are several factors to consider, such as different OS’s the CPU’s are running on and the possibility that users have overclocked their systems.

Start PerformanceTest then from the menu bar select "Tests-->Run All Tests". Once the tests have run select "Baseline-->Upload Baseline to Web". In short, using Xvid to compare AMD and Intel processors isn't as good as it used to be. Either that, or since Xvid is one of the few very CPU-intensive benchmarks out there, you should try and build it yourselves for each platform just to be sure.
