The cheapest quad-core processor that Intel currently has on offer is the Core 2 Quad Q8200. The processor runs between 0.925V-1.425v for normal operation and has an overall clock frequency of 2.6GHz. The processor is multiplier locked with a 13x multiplier as it is NOT a Black Edition processor.

The new Athlon II X4 has the smallest quad core X86 processor around. I think you need to install install any special drivers on your system. AMD Athlon ii x4 620 are of 69 mm squared and it is smaller than even the Core 2 Quad (2 x 107 mm square). This means that AMD can pack a lot more dies on a wafer with the Athlon II X4, and they can sell it at a far lower price than the 264 mm squared Phenom II.

If you want to overclock this processor you'll have to do that by increasing the 200MHz base clock. With all of these graphs and charts put together, for both Microsoft Windows 7 and the Windows Vista operating system PCSTATS is finally getting a look at the real strength of the AMD Athlon II X4 620 processor. The CPU's HT link is set to 2000MHz and features just the L2 cache level, which is 512KB of L2 per core. Featuring a 95W TDP means that the Athlon II X4 620 has the same power rating as a triple-core Phenom II processor.

The Athlon II X4 does include all of the other features of the Phenom II. AMD might have hit a home run with the mainstream market here. AMD Athlon ii x4 620 should run on your Ubuntu system. As it is a low powered, low cost chip that overclocks well should fit the bill for many pc enthusiasts out there. This chip would run cool and quiet and provide more than enough power to run a high end HTPC or even a low end gaming system.

I think it should work as the Athlon II X4 620 processor have a multiplier locked, but it has a higher 14x multiplier. Encoding should not depend much on cache size, that is the 810 shouldn't be much faster than the 620 (but it definitely must not be slower). All the other features between the two processors are the same, so it, too, is a multiplier locked processor.
