sad Difference between the different type of Cores

    Hi,
I have may be a basic question on hardware. I am trying to understand since now I have to work on the setting up a test lab. It is very important for me to understand the differences between the below.

My basic question is as follows:

    1. No. of CPUs shown on the Task manager?
    2. No. of Logical Processor/No. of Physical processors(i.e., CPU) on mother board?
For the below categorized types of machines.
    a.1. Core 2 Duo -
    b. Dual core -
    c. Quad Core Single -
    d. Quad Core Duo -
    e. Is there anything called Hard Core(Please do not laugh......)?

    3. Is there a specific way to identify the No. of cores and No. of CPUs in a computer. Or any specific standard usefull software/tool.

    Thanks&Regards,
    Ram

    1. No. of CPUs shown on the Task manager?
there will be only one processor on your computer which can be seen under Windows Task Manager

    2. No. of Logical Processor/No. of Physical processors(i.e., CPU) on mother board?
For the below categorized types of machines.
    a.1. Core 2 Duo -
    b. Dual core -
    c. Quad Core Single -
    d. Quad Core Duo -
    e. Is there anything called Hard Core(Please do not laugh......)?
There is nothing like hard core in computers. The Cores are typically integrated onto a single integrated circuit die (known as a chip multiprocessor or CMP), or they may be integrated onto multiple dies in a single chip package. And Core 2 Duo, Dual core, Quad Core Single, Quad Core Duo etc are its variants

    3. Is there a specific way to identify the No. of cores and No. of CPUs in a computer. Or any specific standard usefull software/tool.
You can check this detail using many software available on internet some of which includes CPU-Z, OCCT, PowwwerSoft CPU Monitor etc

Hi Thank Q for the reply.

I would require some more info like.. when I look at Performance tab in Task manager in windows, there is CPU Usage history boxes will be there... In my desktop it is showing 2 boxes(See the image attached). like wise. Howmany will be displayed for the below
Single CPU - 1 will be shown
    Dual Core - ?
    Quad Core Single - ?
    Quad Core Duo - ?

    Thanks
