Two sticks of 512mb RAM, computer only recognizing 256mb

I am using assembled PC which have 3.06 GHZ processor, 512 ram, 80 GB hard disk but few days ago my system recognized only one sticks of ram. I have Kingston valueram 256mb RAM. When I restart my PC, system detects ram correctly but after some time it shows only one stick of ram. Is their any problem in RAM?

I was experiencing the same problem. I am using Intel 845 motherboard. My system can detect only one RAM so I changed my RAM. I think their is problem in a ram so that your system can not detecting a ram. So my suggestion would be change your ram and check that your system now detects a RAM or not. This process can solve your problem.

I think you have problem in your slots. To Check your slot, just change location of two RAMs means place one ram in slot 1 and other in slot 2. If your ram still not detecting then you have to repair your motherboard. Problem must be in your slot. If your motherboard have a warranty then just go to computer hardware shop and tell him your problem. I am sure they will help you.

I was experiencing same problem but I had problem with my slot. In my motherboard only one slot is not working so that I bought 512 ram rather than repairing my motherboard. If you don't have motherboard warranty and your one slot is working then buy 512 ram or 1 GB ram. It is less expensive than repairing motherboard or purchasing new motherboard.
