AMD X3 or X4

I just made a little minor upgrade on my pc, going for a new motherboard and new processor. I just purchased a Amd Athlon2 X2 250 and I had to share before an Amd Athlon64 X2 4600.

I would like to make a second upgrade

1. Processor top of game
2. Graphics Card middle/top game

1. I look for a processor X3 or X4, but I asked myself before making my upgrade if it was worthwhile to buy an X4 knowing it is possible to unlock the 4th core on a X3, someone tested? Is there a difference between a real X4 and X3 with core?

2. I am thinking of to introduce a Nvidia 8800GT. I would look to an Nvidia 260, if its worth?

3. When I bought my Athlon2 X2 250 my seller told me it does not bother if I change DDR2 667 to put the DDR 1333/1600, is this true?

4. Finally I would like to know if Athlon2 X2 processor 250 had the same bug as the Athlon64 processor that is to require a patch for the two core operating at its maximum.

OS: Windows Vista 64 Ultimate.
Motherboard: Gigabythe MA770-UD3 V1.0

Re: AMD X3 or X4

You can always try to reactivate the 4th core, but be aware that the X3 has a 4 cores defective after testing AMD quality, so the result is not guaranteed (or stability)

For your graphics card, keep what you have, better wait for the future GT300 and Radeon HD5870

Re: AMD X3 or X4

X3 and X4 is a bit random, and must give the vcore and therefore the heat, I do not think it worthwhile. If you want a quad for cheap go for X4 620

You have ddr2 with your motherboard, put memory in 1333-1600, it is more akin to DDR3, so I think he is right but if you wanted to make a furious of 8500 or more so, but hey, the gain is still pretty ridiculous.

About the history of the patch, it has no interest and do not give any better processor performance.

Re: AMD X3 or X4

Thank you for your reply, I think I'll make a good choice now that I know is close to or can direct me. I wonder really because at that time of year, I lag really mad that I am hanging a lot of games online. I saw a small difference by changing my processor. I have even put my setting to poor to be able to make the mass pvp is a little pocket when you play a beautiful game like Aion.
