Re: Intel Core i7 vs Core i5 processors

It would have been logical if Intel had chosen the i5 Core processor to link the Core i7 socket 1156 and 1366 . Unfortunately, the gentlemen of Intel invented something else making it all a bit difficult. Consequently, the Core i7 models (which is available for both 1156 and 1366) on Hyper Threading and missing this feature in the Core i5. If current rule of thumb you could say that all Core ix 9xx processors suitable for socket 1366 and 1156 for all others

The Core i7 has a feature that allows single threaded applications a boost by a single processor core allows overclocking. The other cores were temporarily eliminated and thus profited even single threaded applications from the Core i7.

Re: Intel Core i7 vs Core i5 processors

The new Core i5 750 appears to be well along with its brother the Core i7 920 which only the true multithreaded applications is given the superior absence of hyper-threading on the i5. If I had to choose the best processor I would choose the Core i7 860. This processor is on average significantly better than the 920 but only costs a few dollars more.
