If you have DDR2 slots then DDR2 is not backwards compatible to DDR. and I think under no circumstances can you put DDR-2 of any speed into it and have it even come on far less even recognize the memory. For most of the laptops the with 2 expansion slots, one slot would be under the laptop which is easy to replace. You have to use DDR spec ram as crucial's memory, Other slot would be under the keyboard, which is bit tough, You can check your manual to find the insctruction on how to do it.

I have checked for your precision laptop on the internet and they have mentioned that you may upgrade your system to Maximum 2GB Memory, you will be having 2 Memory Slots non-removable base memory 0MB, so go ahead and upgrade your memory.

As per my knowledge 1GB Dell Inspiron/Latitude Notebook PC2700 DDR333 SODIMM (p/n 311-2962) will cost you $49.98 One or more of the sockets in your system is already filled with memory. When you upgrade your system, you can either add memory to one of the open sockets and/or remove memory from a filled socket and replace it with a higher capacity. It will facilieates experience less start-up time, faster program load times, an enhanced Internet experience, and multiple programs running smoother at one time
