Well it depends on which Processor you have or which Motherboard you have ? if you are taking about intel processor then have a look at this tool : for more help http://processormatch.intel.com/COMP...ompDB_help.htm

You can check the motherboard's manual or website for the compatibility or you can see the motherboard's socket and compare it with the processor.

    Its very easy bubai

first choose your processor then go to its site for the specification there you will find its socket type. once you find its socket type then go to motherboard site you prefer. There you will find motherboards by socket catagorie.

As example- your desired processor is IntelĀ® Core™2 Duo Processor E7400
So go to intel site and search for it under product category.it will show its specification and you will find socket type is lga 775.

    www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Now suppose desired motherboard brand is asus. Go to its site>Product>Motherboard under motherboard section there you will see motherboard category mentioning its socket type.

Important!!!- A motherboard supports a specific socket type processor that means all processor that has same socket type will fit on that board.

Example asus p5kpl-AM/PS motherboard has lga 775 socket. So it will support all intel lga 775 socketed processor.
    www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
If you cant make out yet then google with socket.

    Good luck.

    • Name and number.
    • Core stepping and process.
    • Package.
    • Core voltage.

ThumbsUp Re: Motherboard and Processor combination

Ok bubai socket number is also called package type/ package number.

As for intel processor all Pentium dual core, core 2 duo, core 2 quad processor package number/socket number is lga 775.

and all intel core i7 processor package type/socket number is LGA 1366.

    Follow the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_socket

And as for motherboard socket. Search your motherboard specification there in the cpu section you will find what socket or package is supported by the motherboard.

If you chose i7 processor it is difficult to find lga 1336 socketed motherboard.
Though Asus, intel, gigabyte are saying there motherboard is i7 ready but they are lga 1336 compliant. But they will work somehow
