    LS45MG motherboard and processor issues

    Hello everybody,

I would like to upgrade the processor on my existing mobo which is a L4S5Mg The manual tells the processor should be compatible with an mPGA478 socket and which can handle up to 400mhz system bus. I figured out some processors with the socket 478 and with much larger L2 cache,So am asking can I put this larger number in this motherboard. Does anyone here have any info to help me out with this?

Thanks a lot to whomever can help me out!

Yeah it is an IBM.So the mPGA478 could just be an internal code or something they put in there to afraid people to take it back to them for upgrades. I can ask one of my friend that he has chip like what you want to upgrade to and see if they'll let you try it. It shouldn't hurt anything if they don't combine

Basically the mPGA478 is an intel 478 socket. but your motherboard is less familiar. How did you grab this thing brother. You will be able to put in any P4 w/ a 400fsb. I believe they have them up to 2.8Ghz w/ a 400fsb.You should visit newegg and look under cpu and put in intel, P4, 400mhz fsb . As far as OC with that board .I've had 2 ECS mobo and neither OCed very well.hope this helps

I would suggest you to purchase more RAM. Take out 2x512MB and put in 2x1GB for 3GB total. The Core micro-architecture is more competent, but most video games aren't multi threaded, so with games, going from a 3.2GHz P4 to a dual-core processor isn't as big of a performance leap compared to say, video encoding.
