the question is above ... I have always known about the DDR memories all the producers simply define ddr but what it means to gddr ? what is the main difference ? how much speed difference these both having between them ?
thank you

Re: Ddr versus gddr

GDDR or Graphics Double Data Rate memory refers to memory specifically designed for use on graphics cards you will find GDDR2, GDDR3, GDDR4, GDDR5 graphics ram chips are totally different from ram chips.DDR SDRAM is a class of memory integrated circuits used in computers.

Re: Ddr versus gddr

GDDR2 memories continue to work at 2.5 V. Since they run at higher clock rates compared to DDR memories,GDDR3 memories can work at 2.0 V also no graphics cards are created with DDR, all graphics cards are with GDDR3 but is often labeled wrong.

Re: Ddr versus gddr

Gddr contain Higher Clock Rates with different voltage requirements that requires different specification than ddr also its controller allows more stable operation at high speeds so the Graphics Card with GDDR4 is costly but as Memory controllers are complex DDR4 not much popular and you can see more video cards are at GDDR3.
