    Westmere and Intel X58 MB

    Hello friends,

I have had worst experiences with Intel which is mainly incapable to upgrade to the latest CPU's on there MB's in the past.So i'm curious to know Will Westmere work with Intels X58 MB?Anyone have any ideas or insight to build a new computer.

    Thanks...

I would tell Westmere is just a process drop to 32nm, will also span across those 3 socket types. At least that's Intel's current plan.Don't hope current x58 motherboards to support Westmere with a bios upgrade. Only a handful of old Conroe boards supported Penryn. Intel hasn't finalized Westmere, it's still in design.Besides, they will obviously bump up bus speeds and other features that would make a newer chipset desirable. Who knows, USB3 may even be out at that time, or PCIe 3.0

Westmere means to an entire class of 32nm microprocessors with the introduction of Clarksdale.Which has a IMC like Nehalem but an additional gpu core with the die having a new instruction set. As I realized it the initial platform will partially 'neuter' the traditional north/south bridges by utilizing PCIe on the die with direct memory access instead of quickpath like Nehalem.Probably that Nehalem will have a 32nm variant somewhere on the 'roadmap' but one of the Intel gurus will have to answer your question about the specific motherboard chipset

I would buy the X58 board right now and a core i7 920 CPU and upgrade to the Westmere CPU later, but not going for it if I have to buy a new MB.Those budget nehalems will run on a different socket but will only be dual core
