    Need to change the processor

    Hi

I am with my old computer right now and i would like to upgrade it in order to get optimized performance the computer i purchased is exactly 2-3 years ago.I had already bought the graphics card (AGP) so i do not think it is worth upgrading the motherboard as yet to pci-e. just wandering will my motherboard be compatible with a (AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2 x 1MB) Cache OEM Processor)

    good suggestions appreciated !!!

    Thank you

Yes you can use this one that clocks a bit higher AMD Opteron 180 Denmark 2.4GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 110W Dual-Core Processor and cost $159.99 also in stock at NewEgg. infact, the elegant design of the AMD64 architecture allowed for the planning of dual-core processors from the ground up, which means that the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor is designed to fit in the same 939-pin infrastructure as single-core processors. All that is required is a BIOS update

Yes if you can find these types of CPU for 939 chipset.may be the 4000 series and up to 4600 X2.obviously FX 60. Opteron 170 thru 185 series. If you go with an opteron ur PSU might be an issue if it doesn't have enough amps @ 12V as optys can draw up to ~2x the current as a single core athlon64 depending on what u have and what u upgrade 2.

It just shows as a AMD64 4000+ meaning it was a single core.up to the X2 4800+ they have a 939 version but anything there after is set for AM2.I know that Athlons are supposed to be better performing that the Durons. But since your pc is that old and still has AGP I think you best choice if not your only choice is to do a full upgrade.

I agree with previos reply, it's too expensive to upgrade a CPU, Ram, or VGA,. I have been using similar configuration so when I wanted to upgrade it few months ago I saw the prices for that mobo are too expensive. DDR 400 512mb cost like ddr2 800 with 2gb so i buy a new mobo, cpu.... U should think about it too

My God! What did those guys do with that connector? Just a couple of weeks ago I did the installation of a Core Duo (Celeron) processor and it was easier than I expected. The secret is "no hurry". What sucks is the way of fixing the cooler case, it took me eternity and hurt my fingers, but the rest was easy.
