Pc time is incorrect

I have a computer with Windows XP. I don't know what the problem is but, the pc time is incorrect. Everytime i correct the time, it sets itself to 00:00:00 and date is automatically adjusted to 01/01/2000. Can anyone help me with this? Well i'm sorry if i have posted in the wrong section. I'm new here! Thanks.

Does the time get reset when you reboot the computer or it gets reset when you are using the computer? If the PC is ON and the time and date is getting reset, that means a virus is present and it is doing this stuff. This is don't by many virus because some antivirus and programs don't work if you set your date to previous date when the softwares were not installed. Check if there is any virus.

No, its not like like. Even if i reboot after setting the time, it will not change, as soon as i turn off main power and start the computer again, it resets the time and date, what may be wrong with the computer? Can anyone help me in fixing this weird problem?

Its not a problem. Its just that the BIOS battery [CMOS battery on motherboard] has lost power. Time to change the battery. Just replace the bios battery and everything will be fine...
