Does cl2.5 ram work for cl3

I have connect 512 mb ddr ram in one slot and i want to add another 512mb ram, but it recognize only one. Both are DDR SDRAM. There is only one difference between this two ram, 1 is CL2.5 and the other is CL3. Does does cl2.5 ram work for cl3?

The "CL" is designating the ram performance as compared to other, similar chips.CL2 modules wait two clock cycles before sending data. CL3 modules wait three clock cycles before sending data. CL2/2.5/3 is the CAS Latency that the RAM is rated for. CAS2 is, on average, around 5% faster than CAS3. Usually that extra speed is not worth the extra cost.

You know what processor and chipset you want to use? CL2 modules are faster since they only wait two clock cycles and therefore are usually more expensive. Some systems may require either CL2 or CL3 memory. The differance between 2.5 and 3 is not even noticable.

I think the CL2.5 memory is better than the CL3 memory. Bios will adjust CAS, if you want to use CAS2.5 instead of CAS3. If you get a RAM that is 2.5CL however the other RAMs are 3.0CL then your BIOS when set in Auto will automatically set your 2.5CL RAMs into 3.0CL RAM.
