I was looking to buy the ASUS M4N78 Pro motherboard AMD Phenom II 720 and realized that it supports one DIMM per channel only. What does that mean?? can any one explain me ? thank you.

AMD chipsets don't support dual channel memory for speeds over 1066mhz so you can only put 2x 1066 MHz memory modules in. I have both of the 2gb sticks on the yellow slots.so you have to installed 2gb x 2 DDR2 1066 kit only on one of each of the color slots.
Clearly that means you can insert only one stick of memory into single slot with like frequency. You can find motherboards which will allow you dual dimm means dual memory sticks you can used. You get maximum speed with dual Channel
Installing one in black and one in yellow that is not proper for working you need to install on same color ram.RAM is underclocked when you buy it from shop so you can overclock Ram to required speed also 4 x 1gb 1066MHz will not work at same.you can either run 2 x 1gb 1066 or 2 x 2gb 1066mhz memory
