unsure AMD Athlon 64 X2 or Intel Dual Core

I want to assemble a computer which is primarily used for programming & extensive web browsing.

So, for my use which processor should I select taking into consideration both price + performance ?

AMD Athlon 64 X2

OR

Intel Dual Core(not Intel Core 2 Duo)

price + performance = AMD Athlon 64 X2 mostly AMD Athlon is best for graphics orations and recent development made them more tolerable against temperature.

I would recommend Intel Dual Core. Personally AMD is not worth the money you pay for it. I'll say it Cheap and nasty. The only good feature of 64 bit is the speed is 'supposed' to be faster and the much higher ram available. Most of the time, Intel is always going to be more expensive, But really you get what you pay for.

Thanks everyone.

I've kept aside Rs.5000 for processor & another 5K for MB. So at this budget please recommend me a good config.

If you are planning to get a Motherboard and processor @ Rs. 10K I would suggest you to get an Intel Core 2 Duo. It would be anytime better then Athlon and dual core too... You could get a good motherboard @ around 3k and core 2 duo 2.8Ghz processor for around 5.5k to 6k. Now that makes a good computer!!
