    Q9550 vs Q9550S

I have a doubt, I'm looking for a new Quad Core. The issue is that the difference between the Q9550 and Q9550S.

As I saw on the Intel Q9550S consumes less Watts (65W) unlike the Q9550 95W

    But what about the advantages?

The purpose of my computer is working with design tools Corel, Photoshop, etc.

There is no much difference as per some articles online comparing regular chips and the "s" versions. Apparently they are just the same chips but with a guaranteed E0 stepping. The differences is in Watt consumption (95w for normal and 65w for 'S' versions). Generally they use a reduced stock voltage.

Fewer watts sometimes generate less heat and consumes less power.

Basically take a regular Q9550 with E0 stepping, reduce by a few voltages and you've saved yourself over 1-2k bucks instead of buying the "s" version.

    Re: Q9550 vs Q9550S

As per the calculation based on the ideal equation for power consumption of a CPU (P=C*[V^2]*f), the power consumption of Q9550 is 1.225V and that of Q9550S (65W) is 1.013V (approx.). So I see a big difference between 1.225V and 1.013V.

However, the "S" chips are made of top quality of silicon, and so they can run at much lower volts and are potentially much better overclockers.
