processor not compatible for DDR 3?

Here is a question. I just bought AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM2+ 3.0GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM processor, now i also bought 4 gigs of DDR 3 Ram

I have heard different things about this processor, such as it does not support DDR 3. Now if this the case, would i have to buy DDR 2 memory for the computer? or will DDR 3 work, but just won't have the additional speed and memory power?

    Any suggestions?

You can go with 2.8GHz Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition, it is capable with DDR3.AMD's Phenom II lineup now includes five quad-cores and two triple-cores, with the newest products capable of supporting both DDR3 memory and the cheaper DDR2 variety on AM2+ boards, whereas Intel's Nehalem-class Core i7 chips are DDR3-only devices.

AMD has opted for the older dual-channel memory architecture for its first DDR3-enabled Phenom II parts, while Intel's Nehalem platforms feature a triple-channel memory allocation system.

AMD's first 45nm triple-cores are the 2.8GHz Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition, initially priced at $145, and the 2.6GHz Phenom II X3 710, available for $125. Both triple-core parts feature 1.5 MB of L2 cache, 6 MB of L3 cache and a 4,000MHz HyperTransport bus.

It may be possible but it depends on the motherboard. Read the description on the site where you're getting it from or the box if you're getting it from a shop.

I think you must first try fitting the DDR3 RAM into the processor that you have just bought. If it anyhow works.... then well and good or if you are getting the reduced speed ( as it actually should be ), but you not no issues and is comfortable with it, then no need to change to DDR2.

If you are facing unnecessary problems because of this, then I would suggest you to get DDR2.
