hi,
Actually, there should be no problems, BIOS should be newer, so the CPU is correctly detected. If not, it will probably be "Unknown CPU" you can recognize the new bios flash. Best show on the manufacturing side of the board whether the PII will be supported.
There is a real possibility that companies will not upgrade their bioses for Phenom. I imagine that MSI and Asus will, depending on the board. But in terms of my eVGA 590SLI board, I'm guessing that there is little to no chance of updates. Part of the issue as well is the power requirement for Phenom. I'm seeing a much more robust pwm for the 790 series boards, and I'm wondering if the upgrading issues will be similar to those that Core 2 had-technically one can upgrade with a bios, but the stability.
HT3 and the new power thing will not work on a AM2 board, but it should not hold too mush the performance.
DDR3 will be only with AM3. AM2 and AM2+ as no DDR3 support. It's not because the K10 have a DDR3 Controller that DDR3 will work on a DDR2 slot.I know DDR2 and DDR3 have 240 pins but the slots are not physically identical and therefore, you can't put a DDR3 module in a DDR2 slot.
Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H Rev. 1.0 with X3 720BE easily without having to flash.Asus M3N78-VM with X3 720BE also easily without having to flash and may also ATX2.2 NTS without-5V line.
i have installed both and both can be good to install windows after the bios to the latest version of the flash phenom2 recognizes.
