This is probably the simplest and best idea I've seen in a long time. When overclocking, you typically turn up the voltage and clock speed on your CPU until things become unstable, then you know to crank it back a bit. If you're like me, you'll crank it all the way up, and cause the computer to lock up. Once this happens, you'll have to unhook your computer, crack open the case, and move the jumper that clears the CMOS - a royal pain in the butt when you just want to reset the CMOS.

SilverStone has released the SST-CLEAR CMOS, a device that mounts in one of your free PCI slots, and allows you to flip an external switch to clear your CMOS. The switch is not only attractive, but well protected, to prevent you from accidentially clearing things.

SilverStone SST-CLEARCMOS is designed for the overclocking enthusiasts. When installed and mounted in corresponding chassis for external use, an overclocker no longer needs to open the computer chassis to clear CMOS. The SST-CLEARCMOS is extremely useful in offering a way to quickly clear CMOS/BIOS for recovering from failed overclocking attempts, updating BIOS, or resetting BIOS for installing new devices.

    Special Feature:

    • Simple Clear CMOS design
    • Support most motherboards on the market
    • Switch cover design prevent accidental resets

    Try this one:

    • Disconnect the main AC power by either shutting off the power button on the back of your power supply or simply pulling out the power cable.
    • Wait a minute to be sure all the capacitors and coils have discharged.
    • To be really safe you can press the power button which will drain the capacitors for sure.
    • Move the CMOS jumper to the clear position, this is usually done on MSI boards by moving JBAT1 from it's original 1-2 position to 2-3 position as demonstrated in the photo below.
    • If you are not sure or have a non MSI board you must find the correct jumper in your motherboard manual.
    • Your board usually has a special "safe mode" jumper for the FSB. You should also set it to the safe setting in case you have been overclocking since the normal clear CMOS jumper will not reset the frequency settings on these boards. You may refer to your user manual.
    • Wait a minute to be sure the CMOS has been cleared.
    • Return the CMOS jumper to it's original position.
    • Restore power to the system.

    You can also Perform this:

    1. Disconnect the main AC power by either shutting off the power button on the back of your power supply or simply pulling out the power cable.
    2. Wait a minute to be sure all the capacitors and coils have discharged.
To be really safe you can press the power button which will drain the capacitors for sure.
    3. Press the clear CMOS button on the back of the I/O panel.
    4. Wait a minute to be sure the CMOS has been cleared.
    5. Restore power to the system.
