    Memory connection problem

I have a computer, a P4-2400 with Asus P4PE Mobo. I have three memory slots. For FSB 533 DDR PC2100 . Currently, the slot 1 & 2 are occupied by two 512Mb modules. So I 1Gb. Ram. . The slot 3 should not be employed in the case of use of 2 modules, as specified in the manual. . The 3 slot is free and everything works OK for 5 years. So I want to go to 2Gb. RAM. I bought a memory module 1GB, PC2100.

According to my manual, it says this appears to be about the disposal of modules:
If one wants to use three modules of memory as is currently the case.

DDR DIMM 1 row 1 & 2 (the left): SS / DS (Double or Single sided DIMM)
DDR DIMM 2 row 3 & 4 (the center): SS
3 DDR DIMM row 5 & 6 (the right): SS

So I put the 1GB module. in slot 1 and the other two 512Mb modules. in slots 2 & 3. If I turn on the computer, it will not boot. Even the video card does not. Where is my problem, and therefore the solution?

    Thank you

    The 2 512's SS?

Try one of 2 512 to see in # 2?

    Otherwise may be incompatible.

    Re: Memory connection problem

I do not know exactly what I mean DS & SS verbatim.
Because the two memory modules have contacts and chips on both sides.
For-against me if each of the modules, I can see that there are 16 chips on the module 512Mb. and 32 on the module 1Gb. So perhaps it is meant by the DS and SS. If you look at the picture of the 512M module here:

One can see that there are a total of 16 memory chips.
A single chip fingerprint on PCB. SS ...???

And if you look on the photo below, the module 1Gb

We can see that 32 chips arranged above one by the other pair ... in piggy-back. Two chips fingerprinting PCBs. So is this a DS (double sided )...???

I tried as you said to boot with a 512Mb module. slot in the center and it works.

I suspect that the Timmings are "forced" in the SPD of your RAM ...

What causes that once connected the BIOS reads the SPD ... Timmings setup but the other card does not support these same Timmings ... then not boot the ram at fault freeze!

if possible you should go to the bios and "forcing" the Timmings but first you need to know WHAT Timmings supports your slot !

    It takes CPUZ:

In SPD longlet you can see the respective timming a frequency of 266 MHz for the pc2100.
