    Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition to debut next

    "Expected to debut in the second quarter 2009 a new top-range processor family Intel Core i7, with clock of 3.33 GHz"

    Last November Intel presented the first 3 versions of the Core i7 processor for desktop systems, solutions with quad core architecture based on the new family of CPU known as the code name of Nehalem.

    These versions of the Core i7 processor currently available on the market:

    1. Core i7 965 Extreme Edition: clock frequency of 3.2 GHz; QPI bus to 6.4 Gigatransfert / sec; L3 cache from 8 MB, DDR3-1333 memory, 130 watts maximum TDP; Overspeed protection disabled. Official debut at the price equal to 999 USD; taxes;
    2. Core i7 940: clock frequency of 2.93 GHz; QPI bus to 4.8 Gigatransfert / sec; L3 cache from 8 MB, DDR3-1333 memory, 130 watts maximum TDP; Overspeed protection enabled. Official debut at the price equal to U.S. $ 562, excluding taxes;
    3. Core i7 920: clock frequency of 2.66GHz, QPI bus to 4.8 Gigatransfert / sec; L3 cache from 8 MB, DDR3-1333 memory, 130 watts maximum TDP; Overspeed protection enabled. Official debut at the price equal to 284 USD; taxes.

    Now new details are emerging on the first evolution of this project in the form of the Core i7 processor Extreme Edition 975: this cpu multiplier to implement a higher frequency than the model Core i7 965 Extreme Edition, reaching a clock frequency of default equal to 3, 33 GHz.

    With this processor will use the revision D0 debut that should, from the beginning of March 2009, even with the Core i7 processor 920, thus leaving room for a higher tolerance to high clock frequencies. Are not currently available information on the price of this new processor, even on the date of presentation is assumed that the first will remain on the value of the $ 999 Extreme Edition CPU, while the debut must wait for the second quarter of the year.

    ... I wonder what Intel hopes to gain from this $ 999 processor with a crisis like this, not even tapped into the server ...

    The point is that Intel has already prepared a new flagship, and its full name - Core i7 975 Extreme Edition, and its output, only the case of time. This model has a very high efficiency, in addition, has a higher upper potential than the Core i7 965EE.

    Intel’s range-topping part and have done what they do best - overclock the hell out of it. Using GIGABYTE’s EX58 Extreme mainboard, Corsair’s peltier-cooled memory and a pair of Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics cards, they managed to score a staggering 47,026 3DMarks.
