E8400 vs Q6700

i want to buy a motherboared is there anyone to suggest me which one is suitable for me.i am looking for E8400 or the Q6700 mobo right now.both were same price.

both the motherboard are having different feature it depends on your requirement:Core 2 Quad Q6600:An example based on a gaming environment would be: while one core is taking care of graphics, another can handle physics calculations, and another looks after artificial intelligence, and so on.

Core 2 Duo E8400 : Provides enhanced virus protection when deployed with a supported operating system. The Execute Disable Bit allows memory to be marked as executable or non-executable, allowing the processor to raise an error to the operating system if malicious code attempts to run in non-executable memory, thereby preventing the code from infecting the system.

You may want to consider how long you want to keep the processor for.

After all more and more apps and games are going to start being written for more and more cores!

If you plan to overclock a bit and you need to purchase the CPU *now*, I would choose the 8400 for gaming. If you are willing to wait a bit, maybe the 45nm Quads will offer great overclokability which will render them more suitable for gaming. As it is now, a 8400 at 3.5-3.9 Ghz will be better for gaming then a Q6600 or Q6700 at 3.2 Ghz.

My theory is that while the E8400 might be better atm, the Q6700 is not going to render any of todays games unplayable.

With that said, tomorrows games are likely to utilize quad cores, thus making the Q6700 better for tomorrows games.

So with my theory, the Q6700 will outlast the E8400 in gaming.
