How to identify bad memory module?

Whenever I turn on my computer, a series of beeps is what I hear from the CPU cabinet and the system will not boot after that.
This behavior according to me indicates the memory-chip(RAM) is affected and was trying to access something...
What is the reason for this ? How can I deal with this affected memory-chip?

The most common problem that I have seen in case of a bad memory module is that memory is not seated correctly.
The first step is to unseat your memory modules, then reseat them.
> Turn off the computer system.
> Open the CPU cabinet.
> Remove the memory stick from its slot.
> Check the slot whether its free from everything.
> Place the RAM-stick back to its slot such that it is fitted properly.
> Now close the cabinet and turn-on/restart the computer.

This should probably fix the problem and computer must boot.

If reseating the memory-stick does not correct the problem, then beep code might indicate a memory issue.
Since you are getting series of beeps, the number of beeps indicates different problems on different motherboards.

For example, lets say you are getting 8 beeps, then

AMI (American Megatrends') BIOS - Display Memory Read/Write failure (fault with video card)

AST Research BIOS - CMOS timer initialization failed

Mylex - BIOSRAM refresh error

If re-fitting the memory stick does not solve the problem, then it seems that your memory stick is damaged. To find the exact problem of your memory, you can check how many beeps it makes before trying to boot. The number of beeps and your motherboard will help you to identify the exact problem as already mentioned by someone.

Well, instead of cracking your mind out of this, I suggest you to purchase a new RAM stick since they been very cheap now-a-days.
