Hynix announced this week the next release of new video memory modules, which purports to be the fastest in the world with a bandwidth exceeding 40% that of the faster memory on the market today. Declined in the form of chip 1 Gb (128 MB), these modules GDDR5 operate to 1750 MHz, and therefore offer a rate of 7 Gbps link by bus memory. Associated with a 512 bit interface, as found on maps high-end graphics, they would thus reach peak bandwidth of 448 Gb / s. Engraved in 54 nanometers, these modules require a voltage of 1.35 V, less than GDDR5 chips currently available (about 1.5 V). Mass production will begin during 2009. Nvidia or AMD could possibly decide to integrate this GDDR5 high performance on their cards at the end of next year.
